Candle Care & Safety
Before your first burn
Trim the wick to ¼ inch before lighting. A trimmed wick keeps the flame steady, prevents excess soot, and helps the candle burn evenly from the very first light.
While it's burning
Let the candle burn long enough for the wax to melt evenly across the entire top — usually 2 to 3 hours on the first burn. This step matters: skip it, and the candle can "tunnel," burning a narrow well down the middle and wasting wax around the edges.
Never leave a candle unattended. Keep it away from drafts, curtains, pets, and anything else that can catch — and always burn on a heat-safe surface.
Between burns
Trim the wick before every relight, not just the first. Keep wax pools free of debris — trimmed wick pieces, matches, anything that's fallen in — for a clean burn.
When to stop
Discontinue burning once about ½ inch of wax remains. Burning a candle down to the vessel can cause it to overheat and may damage the surface underneath.
After the flame
Once you've burned through the wax, wash the vessel out and give it a second life — as a catchall for jewelry, a small planter, a place to keep the little things that don't have a home yet.
